mai Haere Mai and Welcome to Rhode Street School.
Rhode
Street School is located in the south western Hamilton
suburb of Dinsdale.
The school was established in 1959 and delivers quality
learning programmes for Year 0 to Year 8 students.
The
school’s physical environment is attractive and
provides pleasant learning spaces for staff, students
and parents; with our extensive shaded areas (provided
by our beautiful well established trees), an expansive
playing field and neighbouring park, two adventure playgrounds,
a large astro-turf courtyard area, kitchen garden complete
with chooks and a wood-fired pizza oven, and attractive
native and exotic plantings; we are committed to continue
protecting, sustaining and enhancing our learning environments.
The
school has an eclectic mix of old, modern, refurbished
and new learning spaces, comprising of 11 well resourced
classrooms, the Vicki Signal Media Centre, an FM Radio
Station (88.3 fm), a commercial teaching kitchen / tunnel
house and hydroponics centre, a school community hall,
our world famous Sensory Garden, organic orchards, sustainable
vegetable gardens, Kai Time student café and
various administration and community spaces.
Our
school has a multi-cultural dimension with the diversity
of children attending the school coming from a wide
range of cultural backgrounds; including Maori, European,
Pacific Island, Indian, Korean, Philippine and Chinese.
Our cultures are physically represented by the 12 Pou
situated just beyond the school’s Waharoa (main
entrance gate). Each Pou tells a story about the culture
they represent and how they were created by our students.
We
are very proud to have a bi-lingual
class as a result of a community need that caters
for Year 4 to 8 tamariki.
Our
smaller school size (Ministry of Education maximum approved
roll of 280), low class numbers (average 23 students
per teacher) and family atmosphere, ensures our school
is an attractive choice for your family.
