Prime Condition Of Enrolment

Rhode Street School requires that all international students live in one of the
following types of accommodation:

1. Homestay

2. Boarding establishments

3. With a designated caregiver chosen by their parents / court appointed legal
guardians. All accommodation offered by designated caregivers must be approved by the school, as required by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral care of International Students. An indemnity must be signed by parents giving the designated caregiver authority.

4. With their parents or court appointed legal guardians (proof of legal
guardianship must be supplied),

5. In case of the students on short courses only, in temporary accommodation.

This will be determined and documented by Rhode Street School.

Student fees include stationery costs and all other school related expenses above the student fees. Any variations on payment are at the discretion of the Principal. All payment is to be made ten working days prior to the start date of any student. Receipt of funds will confirm placement. A receipt will be issued as required for the New Zealand Immigration in order to issue the appropriate student study visa.

Fees are separately coded and audited in a stand alone code. Fees are not spent in advance, in anticipation that students will attend the school. The Rhode Street School Board of Trustees guarantees to hold sufficient reserves to be able to meet any refund requirements should the school be unable to provide or continue the programme. Students will have insurance including health, travel and fee protection insurance.

Homestay Fees
All unused homestay fees will be refunded if the homestay has been given two weeks prior notice that the student is leaving. If the student does not give two weeks notice, then two weeks’ fees will deducted from any refund. The homestay placement fee will not be refunded.

Procedures once an Enrolment has been Received

Parents will be informed of an interview time to involve the student, parents, designated caregivers (if applicable), a translator (if applicable), the principal and the teacher responsible for international students.

If the enrolment is accepted, it will be confirmed by the payment of fees due.

3.Students must obey the laws of New Zealand, the school rules and the conditions of their visa. If a student breaks the terms of their visa the school will report the fact to the New Zealand Immigration Service which may result in the student having to leave the country. The school may terminate tuition if any of the above are breached.

Rhode Street School is situated in the city of Hamilton, which is one and a half hours drive south of Auckland. Rhode Street is a state Primary and Intermediate School. Rhode Street School has approximately 250 students in 11 classes. The school caters for students from age 5 to 12 years (turning 13 during the year.) The facilities include a networked computer suite, a well stocked library, and a technology programme. All classes receive lessons in the Maori language and customs. The school programmes are based on the National curriculum which can be found on the Ministry of Education’s website: http://www.minedu.govt.nz

Rhode Street School offers full immersion into an age relative class with respect being to experience and interact within the New Zealand culture and English language.

Management. The interpreter will be provided by the School.

Withdrawal Procedures

If a student withdraws from school:

It must be in writing prior to the student’s last day, giving the date of the final day of attendance and the reason for leaving and the Immigration Service will be notified.

Immigration Service. If a child is not attending their course:

1. In the case of absences the parent /guardian / caregiver must notify the school of the absence with an explanation.

2.In unexplained absences the Truancy service may be contacted, and for protracted truancy which cannot be resolved, the enrolment will be terminated and the

Circumstances in Which Tuition may be Terminated

1.Where a student is absent or consistently truanting from school (see above) then the school will terminate the enrolment.

2.If an child’s behaviour is of an unacceptable level, then a meeting with the child, the parents/ caregiver and the school will be arranged. If the behaviour does not improve, written notification will be given to the parents, warning of the danger of termination of the enrolment. If there is no further improvement, the parents and the student will be notified in writing that the student must leave the school at the end of that term, or earlier if the school decides, and will not be eligible to return the following term.

Orientation


On arrival at Rhode Street School the student will be provided with an
orientation programme to assist with integrating into the school environment
and community. 
Each new Student will be provided with a “buddy” selected from their class
to help the student adjust and become familiar with school procedures.
